Common questions

Which iPhones does it work on?

iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and every iPhone 16 and 17 model, on iOS 26 or later, with Apple Intelligence switched on in Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri. Statements are read by Apple's on-device model, which older iPhones don't have.

How do I add a statement?

Download the statement from your bank's app or website as a PDF, then in Penny Drops tap + on the Personal tab and choose Import PDF. You can also scan a paper statement with the camera or pick photos. Reading a statement takes from a few seconds to a few minutes, and carries on if you leave the app.

How do I add a bill, like water or energy?

On the Family tab, tap + and choose From a bill (PDF). The app reads the supplier, account number, billing period and payment plan, and fills in the form for you to check. Choose who pays it and your share, then Save. Your payments to the supplier, or to whoever pays it, are matched to the bill from then on.

My bank's statement didn't read properly

Rows the app was unsure of are listed under Import review, with the printed line next to each, so you can correct them. To help add support for your bank:

  1. Open the statement (Personal › Settings › Statements).
  2. Tap the ••• menu and choose Report a Reading Problem.
  3. Check the report: every amount, name and account number has been replaced with x's.
  4. Share it to support@pennydrops.app.
The totals don't match my statement

Each statement is checked against its own printed totals. If they don't match, the statement page says by how much. Open Import review to see the rows the reader was unsure of; correcting them usually closes the gap. If a whole statement is missing, the Personal tab lists the gap under To review.

How do I move to a new iPhone?

Go to Settings › Export & backup, make an encrypted backup with a passphrase, and save the file somewhere you can reach from the new phone, such as Files or AirDrop. On the new phone, install Penny Drops and restore from that file. Without the passphrase the backup can't be opened, by you or anyone else.

How do I delete my data?

Swipe to delete a statement in Settings › Statements to remove it and its transactions. To remove everything, delete the app. Nothing is kept anywhere else.

Does it connect to my bank?

No. There is no bank login or Open Banking link. It reads the statements your bank already gives you.

Is it really free?

Yes, for personal use. There are no subscriptions, adverts or in-app purchases.
